Toward the end of last year, I was waking up at 10 or 11am in the morning. I’d have to stay up late sometimes to get work done. It seems like it’s been so long since I started waking up early again, but it’s been less than a week. While I told others that I didn’t have a new years resolution, this is really starting to feel like one. I’ve never had a resolution last more than three months, but I’ve also never had a resolution take me to the beach daily.
As I start getting closer to the beach, I forget all of this. Seeing the sun rising is actually breath taking, even though that sounds so cliché. At this point, I decided I wanted to bike to the end of Venice Pier. I couldn’t wait to get there; I wanted to get there before the sun came up.
I don’t know if you’re allowed to bike on Venice Pier. But I saw three people, although homeless, do it the other day. We share the same rules, right? Biking down the Pier at top speed has been the most exhilarating experience I’ve had this year. Aside from the concrete path you’re on, all you see is ocean. At one point, it felt like I was flying over the middle of the ocean.
Taking photos of the sunset or sunrise is probably the most cliché thing a photographer can do. That’s because it’s the most colorful and majestic occurrence that happens daily. However beautiful the photos may come out, though, it’s never as good as the real thing.
I stopped to laugh when I saw this sign. Who is going to enforce this rule and what’s the punishment? How many people has this sign stopped from diving off the pier? Better yet, how many people has this sign prompted to dive off the pier? Just a few weeks ago, I watched two of my friends dive off this exact pier.
I’ve only gone surfing a few times, so I don’t feel confident enough to go surfing on my own. I also really hate wet suits. When I’m on the beach, the last thing I want to do is wear more clothes made of heavier fabric that soaks up water and sticks to my skin. That being said, I was jealous of these surfers this morning. How many surfers can you spot in this photo?
